♦️ Synopsis ♦️

40614258Jack Reardon uncovers secrets for a living, and the Meta-State spy is pretty good at it. Or rather he thought so until he met Ethan Blade—assassin, warrior, enigma. The unlikely pair have decided to give living together a shot, but Jack’s not entirely certain what he’s gotten himself into—or exactly who he’s in it with.

Jack’s worries are compounded when he’s assigned to a police strike force hunting a serial killer. With each new puzzle piece, Jack considers the true nature of a serial killer—and how similar it is to an assassin. To one particular assassin who’s having trouble adjusting to retirement. Jack’s unsure how to help Ethan—or if he even can.

When the killer strikes close to home, Jack must race against the clock to stop another murder, despite the price someone has put on his head. Could the matters be connected? Is a certain assassin at the centre of both? Surrounded by killers, the only one Jack wants near disappears, leaving Jack drowning in secrets. He’ll have to do what he does best—unravel the secrets, including Ethan’s—to stop the killer and save the life he and Ethan have only just begun to build.

♦️ Riina’s Review ♦️

Holy Shitballs! My boys are back and it’s… EXPLOSIVE!

I fucking adore Jack & Ethan. This installment had me at the edge of my sofa, pulling out my hair, from the first to last page. What a roller coaster ride!

As with all the books in this series I was hooked from the beginning, the first sentence, really, and I couldn’t put it down. Yet, I did. I had to stop reading every other hour / day because this right there, my friends, it needed savoring.

Afterward? Let me tell you, I was a MESS. I needed a few days to let everything sink in and digest properly.

Why the Devil Stalks Death was a nerve-wracking experience – full of action, intrigue, lies, emotion and heartache. Of course Miss Hayward gifted us with the usual steam and sweetness in between death and destruction! The usual 🙂

It was the way he trusted Jack, how he made himself vulnerable for him. How he would laugh when Jack teased him, or unleash his rare, wicked sense of humor. It all made him beautiful.

On many occasions I felt the need to punch something, or someone, and scream at the top of my lungs. It was freaking fantastic!

Why? Well… Jack is in very deep shit. Another, much dreaded, undercover job. A serial killer on the loose. Someone targeting Jack himself.

And Ethan has gone missing.

Miss Hayward knows how to deliver a a thoroughly entertaining and suspenseful story! We’re back to the non-linear timeline and it’s frustrating, nerve-wracking and glorious.

PS: The CODA at the end was…. EVERYTHING.

[I] Wanted to be the person Jack saw when he said the name.

I loved having the guys back! Ethan and Jack have become my number one pairing (OTP vibes are strong with these two, sigh.)

And again, sigh, their quiet, more or less, moments together are so so so lovely! Their chemistry is off the charts; I’m completely addicted to their out of the ordinary romance!

I’m still #TeamJackNeedsAPuppy!

Many, many thanks to L.J. Hayward who kindly provided a free copy for an honest and impartial review.

I feel so blessed to have been gifted this mind blowing ARC. *bows*
